Question:

How do I request more than one volume of a title through ILL?

Our answer:

When placing a request through Interlibrary Loan (ILL) you can ask for up to five volumes in the same request!

To place a multi-volume request include the volume information in the "Title" field and in the "Edition or Volume" field. Below is a screenshot of a book request in ILLiad with these fields highlighted.

Example Title Entry: The Complete Mark Twain Library Volumes 1-5

ILLiad, the system that processes ILLs, is set up to block duplicate requests; by including the volume information in "Title" and "Edition or Volume" fields it ensures your request isn't accidently cancelled.

You can include additional information in the "Notes" field of the request. Below is a screenshot of the "Notes" field in a blank ILL request.

In the instance that a multi-volume work has multiple ISBNs, you only need to put one ISBN in the request form. You can include additional ISBNs in the "Notes" field.

By including information for multiple volumes in a single request you can help reduce the time spent processing and filling it and avoid any unnecessary cancellations.
