Question:

What items are difficult to obtain through ILL?

Our answer:

Materials that other libraries usually do not lend include:

  • Entire journals (a limited number of articles may be requested from individual issues using the article request form)
  • Reference / Reserves Books (book chapters may be requested using the article request form)
  • Special Collections Items
  • E-Books (due to publisher license restrictions)
  • Textbooks (particularly current editions)
  • Standardized Test Preparation Materials
  • Multimedia – computer software, audio tapes, VHS tapes
  • Recently Published materials (new materials may be suggested for purchase using the Materials Purchase Suggestion Form)
  • Embargoed dissertations/theses where the author has restricted access to the work.
In cases where FLARE is the lender, journals and periodicals can be requested via Interlibrary Loan. The preferred requested format is a scan of the material, but if the entire volume/issue is needed, a loan for the physical item may be requested for in-library use only. Please see FLARE Policies and Procedures for more information.
