Study Room Policies

FSU Libraries offers a variety of study spaces, which can be found on our Study Spaces webpage. The following are the policies for each kind of room we offer. 

Please note: FSU Libraries is unable to provide space for Registered Student Organizations, community groups, or individuals unaffiliated with Florida State University. 

 

Group Study Rooms

Group study rooms are available in Strozier Library and Dirac Science Library for students, faculty, and staff on a reservation basis. Reservations are made online through our online booking system found here: http://lib.fsu.edu/rooms-and-study-spaces. Additional information about room capacity, reservation policies, and available technology is available online or by hovering over the “i” next to each room on the reservation page.

  • Group rooms are booked online up to 3 days in advance
  • Group rooms can only be booked by a scholar once per day 
  • Strozier Group Rooms are booked for 2 hours at a time 
  • Dirac Group Rooms are booked for 4 hours at a time 
  • Graduate Group Rooms are only in Strozier Library and require a booking and a key. The key can be checked out at the Scholar Support Desk at the time of your reservation. There is a $10 per hour fee for returning keys late, plus $10 for each additional hour. 

The following policies apply to all group study rooms:

  • Rooms are for use by groups of 2 or more.
  • Group members must show up within 15 minutes of their reservation time or the room may, at the discretion of the staff, be released for others to use. The room may not be 'held' by an individual waiting for a group.
  • Room keys may not leave the library.
  • Room users may be asked to vacate any room by staff, and reservations for the room cancelled as needed.
  • Windows must remain uncovered.
  • Rooms are not soundproof. Please respect the need for quiet spaces. (The Graduate Group Rooms are on a quiet floor).
  • Furniture from other locations in the library should not be moved to the room.
  • FSU Libraries is not responsible for loss or theft of personal property. Do not leave personal belongings unattended; unattended items may be removed by building security upon the request of a group wishing to use the room.

 

Individual Study Rooms

As a courtesy to library scholars and as a protection of library resources and services, the following regulations have been established for all individual rooms:

  • Use of an individual study room is limited to one person at a time.
  • FSU Libraries is not responsible for materials left in individual study rooms.
  • Furniture from other locations in the library should not be moved to the room.
  • Individual study rooms are quiet study areas intended for academic use only.
  • Individual study rooms may be regularly inspected by library staff or campus police and are subject to being checked at any time.  
  • For individual rooms with keys you check out, there is a $10 late fee, plus $10 for each additional hour. 

Strozier Individual Study Rooms

  • Available to all FSU students, faculty, and staff 
  • First come, first serve
  • Keys checked out at the Scholar Support Desk on the 1st floor 
  • 4-hour loan period 
  • Rooms can be renewed at the Scholar Support Desk if there are more keys available 

Dirac Individual Study Rooms

  • Available to all FSU students, staff, and faculty 
  • Reserved online through the booking calendar 
  • 4-hour booking
  • Can only be booked once per day by a scholar 

Graduate Student Individual Study Rooms

Strozier Library and Dirac Science Library have allocated 2-Week Individual Graduate Study Rooms. 

  • First come, first serve at both Strozier and Dirac 
  • Key is checked out at the Scholar Support Desk of the respective library 
  • 2-Week loan period 
  • Keys must be returned for 24 hours before checking out again 

Faculty Individual Study Rooms

FSU Libraries has 10 semester-long individual study rooms for Faculty: 5 in Strozier, 5 in Dirac. 

  • Faculty can request a semester-long individual room in Strozier or Dirac using the online form 
  • These rooms are for full-time FSU faculty on sabbatical, working on intensive writing or research project, or in need of an on campus office. 
  • These rooms are not intended for meetings or office hours of any kind. 
  • Keys, once reserved, will be picked up at the respective Scholar Support Desk. If the key is lost, there will be a $100 replacement fee.
